Vendors selling second-hand clothes in Lilongwe have expressed gratitude as many suppliers have reduced order prices to the levels they used in December 2024.
According to Steve Magombo, chairperson for the vendors, this change follows government intervention after vendors raised concerns over the high prices of goods.
After an inspection, it was observed that most Indian-owned shops had complied with the directive to revert to previous prices. However, some Chinese-owned shops were still selling their goods at higher prices.

Patrick Botha, spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade, welcomed the development, noting that the government, through the Reserve Bank of Malawi, is assisting business owners with forex to facilitate the importation of goods.
