President Lazarus Chakwera, who is also the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate, has called for increased youth participation in key decision-making and leadership roles, describing it as vital for building a self-reliant Malawi.
Speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Monday during the presentation of the National Youth Manifesto, Chakwera highlighted the innovative potential of young people but lamented that they are often overlooked.
“As government, we are committed to continue collaborating and engaging with youths to ensure shared ideas and dreams so that we can transform Malawi together, aligning with the 2063 development agenda,” said Chakwera.
He further urged young people to maintain regular dialogue with government to enhance transparency and accountability in national development efforts.
National Coordinator for the Youth Decide Campaign, Commissioner Mwandila Theu, expressed gratitude to the government for making strides in youth empowerment, citing improved access to student loans, grants, and employment opportunities.
Similarly, Executive Director for the National Youth Council of Malawi, Rex Chapota, applauded President Chakwera for the progress made in addressing youth issues and for providing an open platform for engagement.
The National Youth Manifesto, which outlines key priorities and demands from the youth sector, was launched on June 25 during the National Youth Summit in Lilongwe.
