BISHOP CHAIMA URGES CATHOLIC WOMEN TO EMBRACE HUMILITY AND PRAYER

Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba has called on members of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) in the Diocese to remain humble and gentle as they carry out their service in the Church.

The Bishop made the appeal during the closing of a four-day annual general meeting of the CWA, held at St. Peter’s Major Seminary in Zomba. The gathering brought together over 500 women from all 20 parishes within the Diocese.

Bishop Chaima commended the women for organizing the meeting, noting that it provided an opportunity to reflect on the growth of their association and its role in strengthening the Church. He encouraged the women to put into practice the lessons discussed, beginning within their families and extending into their parish communities.

He further urged mothers to instill moral values and a love for prayer in their children, saying this was key to raising responsible and faithful future leaders. In his address, the Bishop also reminded the women to keep the upcoming general election, scheduled for September 16, in their prayers. He appealed for peace during the polls and encouraged the women to vote wisely for leaders committed to developing the country.

“For someone to serve well in the Church, they must be humble, and I ask every CWA member to be humble and gentle,” Bishop Chaima said.

CWA Chairperson for the Diocese of Zomba, Christina Lakiyoni, thanked the participants for their commitment to the association. She urged the women to share the knowledge gained from the meeting with fellow parishioners and encouraged those facing abuse in their homes or workplaces to come forward and seek help.

The meeting closed with renewed calls for humility, unity, and prayer as guiding values for the association’s continued service in the Diocese.
