President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is today expected to officially open the new Thyolo District Council office complex, a four-storey building constructed at a cost of K7.4 billion at Thyolo Boma.
The state-of-the-art complex comprises 70 fully furnished offices designed to house most of the district’s key government sectors, which were previously scattered due to limited space in the old council buildings.
Thyolo District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga hailed the project as a milestone, saying it gives Thyolo Boma a facelift while providing a modern and conducive working environment for government departments.
“This is a facelift at Thyolo Boma and a milestone project for the District Council. We are thankful to government for providing funds that allowed construction of this project,” said Kuphanga.

In addition to devolved government sectors, the new complex will also host the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services. According to Kuphanga, this development is particularly significant as it will ease congestion in passport services and make it easier for people from Thyolo, Phalombe, and Mulanje to access documents locally.
The official opening of the office complex comes as part of President Chakwera’s ongoing whistle-stop tour of the Southern Region, which has also taken him to Nsanje and Chikwawa.
