PROPER COLLABORATION, KEY TO FOOD SYSTEM

The Director of Agriculture Services for Mbelwa District Council Owen Kumwenda has underscored the need for proper collaborations by stakeholders for the country to fully realise food systems transformation initiatives.

He made the sentiments after a three day meeting in Dedza when GIZ Malawi Step Up project gathered key national actors in food systems transformation for a basic orientation in Food Systems

Governance.Kumwenda explained that the meeting aimed developing concepts of multi stakeholder coordination and collaboration following the formation of the National Food Systems

Taskforce and endorsement of similar Food Systems Steering Committees in the districts of Dedza, Chikwawa and Mzimba.”This workshop aimed at building skills and deepen understanding of food systems governance and the projects theory of change for transformative food systems interventions.

Let it be noted that collaboration is very important in sustaining healthy food production, processing, and consumption practices,” said Kumwenda.

In her remarks assistant Gender and Development Officer from Dedza District Council Thuwaiba Saeed said the training workshop has helped in deeper understanding in gender roles and inequalities in issues food systems.”It has equipped me to have knowledge on how I can contribute actively in the governance spaces.

We have learnt on how we can actively collaborate with other stakeholders in issues of food system transformation. These issues are interrelated,” said Saeed.
