LINDANI TIPS GOVERNMENT TO BUY SMALL TRACTORS.

Zomba Thondwe legislator Dumisani Lindani, has urged the Minister of Agriculture to prioritise the purchase of small tractors for distribution to farmers across the country.

Lindani noted that in the past, the Government has invested in large tractors, which are costly and often inaccessible to the majority of smallholder farmers.

He further said that smaller tractors are more affordable, easier to maintain, and can reach a greater number of farmers in rural areas.

Lindani advise the Government to take it serious because the country need food especially maize but the production is very low because of primitive farming.

According to the legislator, the introduction of small tractors would significantly improve agricultural productivity.

“This will help farmers to harvest more food because many of them will be able to use tractors instead of relying solely on the hoe,” Lindani said.

Lindani believes that mechanisation through small-scale equipment could be a game-changer in boosting yields and ensuring food sufficiency.

But Minister of Agriculture hon Roza Mbirizi agreed that the country need new technoledge inolder to harvest more, and Government is committed to improve farming in the country.

This comes at a time when Malawi continues to face food security challenges, with many farmers still dependent on tradition
