Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare says it is committed to ensuring that all children with disabilities in the country receive the necessary support to help them achieve their goals.
The Deputy Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Martha Mzomera Ngwira said this Thursday in Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe District during an Outreach Clinic and Screening of Children with Disabilities organised by Fount for Nations.
During the event, Fount for Nations provided screenings for children with disabilities, including ophthalmology and audiology services, among others.
The Deputy Minister said her ministry will work hand in hand with the Ministry of Education to make sure that children with disabilities do not face challenges in attaining education.
She, however, issued a stern warning to anyone, including parents and guardians, who abuse children with disabilities, saying they will be arrested and prosecuted.
Fount for Nations Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Connex Kafera said it is worrisome to note that people with disabilities are being discriminated against in various activities.
Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Likuni, Kelvin Mphande, pledged to construct a hospital in the area for easy access to health services.
