MP KAIMAPANJIRA ORDERED OUT OF PARLIAMENT FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH DRESS CODE

The Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Chiwamba Constituency, Wingston Kaimapanjira, was ordered out of the National Assembly after failing to comply with the official dress code required in the chamber.

His attire was deemed inappropriate for parliamentary proceedings.

Speaker of Parliament, Samier Suleman, instructed the legislator to leave the chamber immediately.

The Speaker emphasized that all members are expected to respect the established dress standards before taking part in deliberations.

Kaimapanjira had appeared in what he reportedly described as a type of “Chinese suit,” which, while formal in appearance, did not meet the specifications outlined in the parliamentary dress code.

This resulted in the Speaker’s directive for him to change before returning.

When approached for comment, the MP declined to give a detailed explanation regarding his choice of clothing.

He neither defended the suitability of the outfit nor clarified why he believed it should have been considered acceptable for the session.

The rules of the National Assembly are clear on matters of attire. Members are required to wear a proper suit that includes a necktie, ensuring a formal and respectful appearance befitting parliamentary decorum.

Leather dress shoes are also part of the mandatory ensemble.

The enforcement of these rules is intended to uphold the dignity of the institution. Officials argue that proper dress reflects the seriousness of the legislative process and helps maintain a sense of order and professionalism within the chamber.

This incident has sparked renewed discussion about whether the parliamentary dress code should evolve with changing fashion trends or remain firmly rooted in traditional standards.

For now, however, the rules stand, and MPs like Kaimapanjira are expected to adhere to them to participate fully in parliamentary business.
