The National Assembly is set to commence discussions on the fourth Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Bill next week.
The bill, which outlines new regulations for managing CDF resources, will be tabled in Parliament, with many opposition MPs already expressing their interest in debating the matter.
Gilbert Khonyongwa, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, said the committee will review the bill at the end of the week and provide its recommendations on the proposals.
“The committee will thoroughly examine the bill before it goes to the floor for debate,” Khonyongwa stated, emphasizing the importance of due process.
The Speaker of the National Assembly confirmed that the bill must first be scrutinized by the relevant parliamentary committee before MPs can engage in full debate.
Once the committee completes its review, the bill is expected to be presented for discussion in the House on Thursday.
The legislation seeks to remove a legal restriction imposed by the courts that has prevented MPs from directly managing funds from the CDF.
Parliamentary sources say the move is aimed at strengthening oversight and ensuring that constituency development projects are managed efficiently and transparently.
