THREE DEAD, SEVERAL INJURED IN SALIMA ROAD ACCIDENT

Three people — two men and a child — have died after a three-tonne truck carrying supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) overturned on Friday while en route to Salima.

The vehicle, which had departed from Golomoti in Dedza with an estimated 50 passengers on board, reportedly overturned as it crossed a bridge.

The group was traveling to attend the commissioning ceremony of officer cadets at the Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO).

Medical authorities at Salima District Hospital confirmed that the three victims were pronounced dead on arrival.

Numerous others sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe and are currently being treated at the facility.

Officials say the cause of the accident remains unclear, and investigations have been launched to determine what led to the fatal crash.
