Member of Parliament for Kasungu Central Constituency, Chikondi Kampachike Chisale, has officially withdrawn all charges connected to a campaign incident involving the convoy of Second Vice President Enock Chihana.
Chisale said the decision was guided by the principles of peace, unity and safeguarding the future of young people, which he described as more important than prolonged conflict.
The incident occurred during the recent campaign period and involved the disruption of political activities in the area.
As a result of the incident, Chisale’s vehicle and campaign materials were damaged, affecting planned youth-focused and community engagement activities.
He explained that his decision followed deep reflection and wide consultations with community leaders and other stakeholders.
Chisale emphasised that his move was not influenced by financial considerations and that he neither sought nor accepted any form of compensation.
He further noted that four young people implicated in the matter were at risk of imprisonment, stating that jailing the youth contradicts the responsibility of leaders to protect, mentor and invest in the next generation.
Chisale also praised Second Vice President Enock Chihana for engaging in respectful dialogue within 24 hours of contact, describing the interaction as a sign of maturity, leadership and commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.
