CHIWAYA CALLS FOR UNITY TO DRIVE DEVELOPMENT IN MANGOCHI MUNICIPALITY

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mangochi Municipality, Rodrick Chiwaya, has called on residents to remain united as a key step toward accelerating development in the area.

Speaking to The Truth Publication, Chiwaya emphasized that unity among constituents is essential for meaningful progress, noting that cooperation makes it easier to identify priorities and implement development initiatives.

He described 2025 as a year largely focused on representation, during which he worked to amplify the voices and concerns of the people of Mangochi Municipality at the national level.

Looking ahead, Chiwaya expressed optimism that 2026 would mark a shift toward tangible development projects, particularly in the education sector and in programs aimed at improving social welfare.

He further highlighted plans centered on social and economic empowerment, saying these initiatives are intended to improve livelihoods and create opportunities for local residents.

Among the proposed interventions is the provision of soft loans to women and youth, a move Chiwaya said would help support small businesses and entrepreneurship within the municipality.

According to the lawmaker, the initiative would see allocations of K100 million each for women and youth, sourced from the Constituency Development Fund under the DPP-led government of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Echoing Chiwaya’s sentiments, local businessman Akib Muhammad described the MP as development-oriented and appealed for improved road infrastructure within the township to support business growth and ease mobility.
