MATHANGA ENGAGES CARE MALAWI ON ENERGY, MINING SECTOR COLLABORATION

Minister of Energy and Mining, Honourable Dr Jean Mathanga, MP, on Wednesday held a meeting with Care Malawi Country Director, Pamela Kuwali, to discuss areas of collaboration between the Ministry and the organisation.

The discussions focused on how Care Malawi can support the Ministry in achieving its key goals in the energy and mining sectors.

Dr Mathanga informed Kuwali that her priority is to bring order to the mining sector while ensuring the country has adequate and diversified sources of energy.

She emphasized the need for reforms that will enable Malawians to fully benefit from the country’s mineral resources.

The Minister noted that she is committed to addressing the challenges facing both sectors and welcomed support from relevant stakeholders, including Care Malawi, to complement government efforts.

“The mining sector has been steadily growing in recent years, and we are now in the process of bringing order so that Malawians can start reaping its fruits,” said Dr Mathanga.

“When it comes to power, as a country we have heavily relied on hydroelectricity, but this is not sufficient. We are therefore exploring other sources such as solar energy to meet the growing demand.”

On her part, Kuwali said Care Malawi is ready to work closely with the Ministry of Energy and Mining, particularly in promoting solar energy and strengthening advocacy in the mining sector.

She added that the organisation aims to ensure mining contributes to community resilience and sustainable development.

“Our aim in coming was to congratulate the Minister on her appointment to this very important ministry and to explore how best we can work together,” said Kuwali.
