The newly appointed Minister of Defence, Dr. Feston Kaupa, has pledged to work with dedication and commitment to ensure that the Ministry of Defence continues to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the execution of its mandate.
Dr. Kaupa made the remarks on Friday during an interface meeting with senior management officials at the Ministry, where he officially assumed office following his appointment by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
He expressed gratitude to the President for the trust and confidence placed in him, assuring the nation of his unwavering commitment to serve diligently and patriotically in the discharge of his duties.
The Minister further commended staff at the Ministry for exhibiting a high level of professionalism, describing it as a critical pillar in advancing the Ministry’s goals and responsibilities.
He noted that such professionalism is equally vital in supporting the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) in its role of safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and ensuring national security.
Dr. Kaupa called on Ministry staff to enhance collaboration and maintain a smooth, productive working relationship with the MDF, stressing that teamwork would be key to achieving shared objectives.
He also emphasised that the Government, under the leadership of President Mutharika, remains committed to ensuring that the welfare of serving MDF personnel and veterans is adequately taken care of.
In response, Secretary for Defence Elvis Thodi pledged continued support to the Minister, assuring him of staff loyalty, integrity, and determination in the effective discharge of his responsibilities.
