ZOMBA CHINGALE MP SEEKS CLARIFICATION ON LIRANGWE–CHINGALE–MACHINGA ROAD PROJECT

Member of Parliament for Zomba Chingale, Dr. William Susuwele Banda, raised a supplementary question in Parliament seeking clarification on the progress of the Lirangwe–Chingale–Machinga road project.

Banda acknowledged that part of the road project was highlighted in the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by president Peter Mutharika.

Specifically, he noted that the Lirangwe to Chipini stretch had been reflected in the address.

However, the legislator expressed concern over the remaining section of the road, particularly the stretch from Chipini to Machinga, which was not clearly outlined in the statement.

He emphasized that communities living along the Chipini–Machinga section are currently facing serious transportation challenges due to the poor condition of the road.

Banda therefore sought clarification from the government on its plans regarding the completion of the remaining portion of the project.

Responding to the concerns, Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango assured the House that the government is committed to constructing the entire road from Lirangwe to Machinga.

Mhango stated that the project will not be limited to only one section, but will cover the full stretch to ensure improved connectivity for the affected communities.

He further revealed that the President has directed the ministry to make sure that the whole road project is fully completed as planned.
