GOVERNMENT PUSHES DIGITAL ECONOMY AGENDA

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority is currently hosting the Malawi ICT Innovation Awards in Lilongwe, an initiative aimed at promoting digital innovation and strengthening the country’s growing digital economy.
The event has attracted high-level government participation, with four Cabinet ministers in attendance.
These include Shadric Namalomba, Alfred Gangata, Joe Chigona, and Mary Navicha.

Speaking at the event, MACRA Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma said the initiative is designed to identify, nurture, and support young innovators developing solutions that can contribute to national development and improve service delivery across key sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and financial services.

The awards have brought together 20 young innovators from across Malawi, who are showcasing a range of technological solutions addressing real-world challenges affecting communities and industries.

In a major highlight of the programme, MACRA announced that the top two winners will be sponsored to participate in International Telecommunication Union innovation forums. At these global platforms, the winners will present their innovations, engage with international investors, and exchange ideas with peers from around the world.

The Malawi ICT Innovation Awards continue to position the country as an emerging hub for digital creativity and technological advancement in the region.
