Mzuzu Central Hospital has announced the installation of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system across several key departments in a move aimed at strengthening security and improving accountability.
According to an internal memo dated April 20, 2026, addressed to members of staff, the surveillance system has been deployed in strategic areas of the hospital.
These include the pharmacy main stores, dispensary, outpatient department (OPD) registration area, and general bulk stores, among others.
The development has been welcomed by the Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN).
Its Executive Director, George Jobe, said the initiative is a positive step toward tightening security and addressing the persistent challenge of theft of drugs and other medical supplies in public health facilities.
Jobe has since urged other health institutions across the country to adopt similar measures, emphasizing that stronger security systems are critical in safeguarding essential medicines and ensuring they reach the patients who need them most.
