The Chinamwali Ladies charity group has donated assorted items to 150 elderly people in the area as part of commemorating Malawi’s Independence Day.
The Guest of honour, Councillor Harry Manda, commended the group for its commitment to supporting the elderly, saying they face many challenges and deserve care and assistance.
Manda encouraged the group to continue its charitable work and pledged his support in helping expand the initiative to reach more communities.
Chairperson of the group, Estere Chidothi, said the donations are made every year on July 6 to assist the elderly, vulnerable people, hospital patients, and people living with disabilities.
She explained that the donated items were purchased through the group’s own contributions, with additional support from a well-wisher identified as Brother Hamuza.
The items include sugar, salt, soap, soya pieces, and meat.
