Mvera Police in Dowa District has arrested a minibus conductor after he was found possessing medical drugs without a permit.
The suspect has been identified as Gerald Chigona, 23, of Mbaluku Village, Traditional Authority Malengachanzi, Nkhotakota District.
Dowa Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Alice Sitima had confirmed about the incident.
Sitima said police officers manning the Mvera Roadblock stopped a minibus, registration number LL18502, which was traveling from Nkhotakota to Lilongwe.
She added that during inspections, officers discovered a sealed bag. When questioned, the conductor claimed the bag contained dry fish, allegedly given to him by a customer for delivery to Lilongwe, bound for South Africa.

“Upon opening the bag, officers found assorted medical drugs, including: 20 cartons of malaria tests ,19 cartons of Triclofem , 19 cartons of malaria pf
,3 cartons of malaria Ag pf and 3 cartons of Contrasafe”, She explained
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the drugs were seized.
Meanwhile,Investigations are underway to trace and arrest other suspects connected to the case.
23 – year- old Chigona will appear in court soon to answer a charge of illegal possession of medical drugs.
