Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commended Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for his dedication to promoting peace and security in the Southern African region.
Mnangagwa made the remarks during his handover speech after completing his tenure as Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
The Zimbabwean leader praised Mutharika for his leadership and commitment to maintaining peace, security and stability within the regional bloc.
Mnangagwa has since handed over the chairmanship of the SADC Organ to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government being held in Durban, South Africa.
Malawi is being represented at the summit by Second Vice President Enock Chihana on behalf of President Mutharika.
The handover marks the transition of leadership of the SADC Organ as member states continue to strengthen regional cooperation on peace, defence and security matters.
