Malawi’s community of ESAMI graduates will officially launch the ESAMI Alumni Malawi Chapter on Friday, 28 August 2026 in Lilongwe.
The new platform brings together professionals from different sectors who trained at the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute and now want to apply their skills to national challenges.
The launch will be held under the theme “Reconnecting Excellence: From Learning to Leading.” Organizers say the event marks the beginning of a structured network where alumni can pursue mentorship, knowledge exchange, collaboration, and development initiatives that go beyond social gatherings.
The President of the ESAMI Alumni Malawi Chapter, Abels Tembo, says the timing is critical, considering that Malawi needs stronger collaboration between professionals and institutions working on economic growth, governance, health, and education.
Tembo added that the chapter aims to harness expertise across sectors and turn it into practical solutions.
“The value of an alumni association is not measured by how many people attend its dinners, but by what its members contribute to society. We want to build a platform where knowledge, experience and relationships are deliberately converted into ideas, partnerships and practical impact,” he explained.
The leader emphasized that the chapter will not function as just another professional club. Instead, it will focus on measurable projects, policy conversations, and mentorship programs that support young leaders and institutions across the country.
The chapter will also serve as a bridge between Malawi-based alumni and the wider ESAMI alumni community globally.
This connection, organizers note, will open doors for regional partnerships, research, and exchange programs that can benefit both the public and private sectors in Malawi.
The 28 August launch will therefore be both a celebration of ESAMI alumni in Malawi and the start of a broader conversation. The discussion will center on how professionals can use their collective knowledge and influence to contribute more meaningfully to the country’s development agenda.
