The Blue Eagles Football Club have unveiled a landmark K250 million one-year sponsorship partnership with Standard Bank, in a deal expected to strengthen the club’s campaign in the Malawi Premiership.
The partnership was unveiled on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the National Police Headquarters Officers Mess in Lilongwe.
Under the agreement, the club will compete under the name Standard Bank Blue Eagles FC for the duration of the sponsorship.
The sponsorship package will support several key areas of the club, including branded playing kits, team naming rights and selected team apparel, providing financial and logistical support both on and off the pitch.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer Philip Madinga said the bank was attracted to Blue Eagles because of the club’s strong performances over the past three seasons, as well as its commitment to discipline.
«“The team has been performing well for the past three seasons, finishing within the top three, and this motivated us,” Madinga said.»
Madinga said discipline was another important factor behind the partnership, noting that Standard Bank expects the club to uphold values that safeguard the reputation of both Blue Eagles and the bank.
The partnership is also expected to go beyond football, with Standard Bank indicating that it will explore initiatives aimed at supporting the welfare of the Malawi Police Service, including possible construction of houses and roadblocks.
Blue Eagles FC Patron and Malawi Police Service Inspector General Richard Chakupareza Luhanga welcomed the sponsorship, saying it would help ease the financial pressure on the club while providing additional motivation for the team.
«“We are very thankful for the gesture by Standard and I appeal to the team to continue performing well in the Premiership as this is the only way we can pay them back,” Luhanga said.»
Luhanga further challenged the players to use the partnership as motivation to compete for silverware.
«“This is really great motivation to the club and I challenge the boys to win cups as well as the league.”»
Meanwhile, Malawi National Council of Sports Board Chairperson Jim Kalua commended Standard Bank for investing in sport, saying corporate partnerships remain important in supporting the growth and development of sporting activities in Malawi.
The partnership also renews Standard Bank’s involvement in Malawian football. The bank previously sponsored the Standard Bank Cup in the early 2000s and has also supported the Inayo Regional Division One leagues.
The K250 million deal therefore gives Blue Eagles additional financial backing as the club seeks to maintain its strong Premiership performances and compete for major honours.
