MISSING 10-YEAR-OLD BOY FROM ZOMBA FOUND IN BALAKA

A 10-year-old boy, Ikra Ayami, who went missing in Zomba District more than two weeks ago, has been found at Chingeni in Balaka District after a farmer discovered him and another child abandoned in a field with their hands and legs tied.

His grandfather, Chifundo Chimombo, confirmed the development saying Ikra had recounted how a man allegedly took him and another child from Namwera in Zomba to Chingeni.

Ikra described the man as short and fat, alleging that he tied their hands and legs, covered their faces and abandoned them in a field.

The children were rescued by a farmer who untied them and took them to his home. When asked about his identity and where he came from, Ikra reportedly explained that he was from Namwera in Zomba District and that his mother sells tomatoes. The farmer subsequently alerted the police, who contacted officers at Malosa to help trace the boy’s family.

Ikra’s mother, Charity Chimombo, expressed relief and happiness that her son had been found however, she said the boy appeared frightened and feared that a similar incident could happen again.

The family has since decided to take him to their home village, hoping that he will feel safer and more comfortable there.
