The Tobacco Commission is set to conclude its field registration and licensing exercise for tobacco growers for the 2026/2027 season on Saturday, October 17.
The exercise, conducted under the Know Your Grower (KYG) programme, began on September 21 and was initially expected to end on October 3.
However, the Commission extended the deadline following a high turnout of growers seeking registration.
In a statement released today, the Commission said it had deployed additional staff, extended operating hours and established more registration centres to accommodate the growers.
Despite the closure of field registration, farmers will still be able to access registration and licensing services at the Commission’s divisional offices in Lilongwe, Kasungu, Mzuzu and Limbe.
The Commission also introduced measures to improve conditions at registration centres, including putting up tents and providing mobile toilets where necessary.
The KYG programme is designed to strengthen compliance and improve the traceability of tobacco produced in Malawi.
