MWENIFUMBO ADVOCATES FOR FEDERAL SYSTEM TO BOOST MALAWI’S ECONOMY

National Development Party (NDP) President, Frank Mwenifumbo, has called for a review of Malawi’s Constitution to adopt a federal system of government, which he believes could improve the country’s economy.

Speaking at Kanjuli Primary School in Senior Chief Malemia’s area in Zomba, Mwenifumbo introduced Dr. Chikondi Lisimba Mpokosa as the NDP’s aspirant parliamentarian for Zomba Malosa.

He argued that Malawi’s current economic struggles such as fuel shortages and food insecurity stem from an ineffective governance system and cited Mozambique, Tanzania, and South Africa as examples of nations that have achieved economic stability under federal systems.

Looking ahead to the 2025 General Election, Mwenifumbo affirmed that the NDP will not form alliances but will contest independently, urging Zomba Malosa residents to elect him as president to implement economic reforms addressing Malawi’s challenges.

In her remarks, Dr. Chikondi Lisimba Mpokosa, who also serves as the NDP Vice President, emphasized her plans to empower women through small-scale business initiatives and mobilize youth into technical and vocational training.

She highlighted the area’s critical issues, including long distances to secondary schools, lack of potable water, poor roads, and widespread hunger.

Mpokosa also expressed concern over students missing exams due to the inability to pay fees and promised solutions to these challenges if elected.

An education expert with international experience, Mpokosa has worked in countries such as the UK, Nigeria, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, and parts of Asia, serving as a CEO in multiple organizations.
