The Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has distanced itself from a visit made by some of its ministers to the residence of former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in Mangochi, expressing “deep concern” over the matter.
In a statement released and signed by Synod Moderator Rev. Dr. Humphreys Zgambo and General Secretary Rev. Anderson Juma, the church clarified that it neither authorized nor endorsed the visit.
“The Synod would like to publicly confirm that it neither sanctioned, approved nor in any way endorsed the said visit,” the statement read.

The Synod further described statements made during the meeting, which were attributed to its leadership, as “false, unfortunate, and concerning.” It emphasized that any remarks suggesting official Synod involvement in the visit should be disregarded.
The church leadership urged its members to remain united and focused on its spiritual mission rather than political engagements not sanctioned by the Synod.
