CHAKWERA HIGHLIGHTS YOUTH EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVES FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

President Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to youth empowerment, rolling out various initiatives to position young people as key drivers of Malawi’s economic growth.

Speaking in Mzuzu during an engagement with youths from the northern region on his recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), Chakwera highlighted programs designed to uplift the youth.

He noted that government, through the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board, has significantly increased financial support for tertiary education. The number of students benefiting from loans and grants has risen from 10,000 to 31,000 since he took office.

“This initiative is a game changer in acquiring tertiary education and a clear demonstration of my government’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind,” Chakwera said.

He also emphasized the importance of digital skills training, stating that digital literacy is essential for accessing education, employment, and economic opportunities in today’s interconnected world.

Chakwera stressed that young people are central to achieving Malawi 2063, as their innovation and vision are crucial for sustainable economic growth.

“Youths hold the key to unlocking Malawi’s potential. Their vision and innovation are essential in driving the country towards sustainable economic growth,” he said.
