President Lazarus Chakwera has called on the youth to embrace hard work and skills development as a pathway to economic transformation in Malawi.
Speaking at the official opening of the 2025 TEVETA Conference in Lilongwe, Chakwera emphasized that vocational skills training can empower young people to generate income and become self-reliant. He highlighted the role of technical skills in fostering job creation and boosting the nation’s economic growth.
The president commended TEVET Malawi for equipping the youth with practical skills to drive sustainable change in their lives and communities.
Minister of Labour Peter Dimba praised Chakwera’s commitment to improving vocational education, noting the construction of new technical colleges across the country. This development has significantly increased student enrollment from 2,500 to 7,000.
TEVET Board Chairperson Pyoka Tembo underscored the importance of technical and vocational training in achieving the Malawi 2063 Vision. He noted that the conference would serve as a platform for sharing best practices, showcasing successful TEVET initiatives, and fostering innovation.
Tembo added that the event aims to strengthen stakeholder collaboration by promoting partnerships in skills development, resource mobilization, infrastructure expansion, curriculum enhancement, and training delivery.
