KABWILA ATTENDS GLOBAL AI ETHICS FORUM IN THAILAND

The Minister of Higher Education, Hon. Dr. Jessie Kabwila, is attending the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, currently underway from 24th to 27th June 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Kabwila is joined by the Director of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Ministry of Higher Education, Associate Professor Chomora Mikeka. The trip is fully funded by UNESCO.

The forum brings together global leaders, policymakers, academics, and innovators to engage in high-level discussions on the ethical governance and responsible use of AI technologies. Malawi’s participation highlights its commitment to ethical AI and the promotion of digital innovation through science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development.

Meanwhile, in Malawi, the validation of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (NSTIP) is taking place at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe. The event is being held in collaboration with UNDP and co-chaired by the UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Fenella Frost, and Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Levis Keliyasi Eneya. The validation process is facilitated by the National Science, Technology and Innovation Technical Working Group (NSTI-TWG), with participation from national experts and policy users.
