UTM Party President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has said Malawi can achieve economic prosperity if its leaders fully harness the potential of the mining, tourism, and agriculture sectors.
Speaking in Zomba, Dr. Kabambe said that at independence in 1964, Malawi was economically ahead of countries like China, but has since regressed due to what he described as “visionless leadership.” He lamented that many Malawians are still living in grass-thatched houses, a sign of widespread poverty.
“Malawi is blessed with natural resources our beautiful lake with oil potential, the Zomba and Mulanje mountains, national parks, and gold deposits. If properly managed, these resources can transform Malawi into a wealthy nation,” he said.
Kabambe urged Malawians to vote for the UTM Party in the upcoming tripartite elections on September 16, promising that his leadership would prioritize economic reforms to make citizens self-reliant.
On the role of churches, he observed that many religious institutions are financially struggling because their congregations are poor. He pledged to support churches in becoming economically independent under a UTM government.
“Starting from the 16th, the UTM party will rebuild the economy of this nation so that every Malawian can live a better life,” he declared.
Malawi is scheduled to hold presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections on September 16 this year.
