Leader of Opposition in Malawi Parliament Simplex Chithyola Banda has shown remarkable articulation in his response to Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s State Opening Address of last Friday 31 October, 2025.
In response , Chithyola resonated deeply with the aspirations and concerns of Malawians. Showcasing leadership who is not just vocal but also vigilant about the welfare and rights of the people of Malawi, Chithyola underscored the importance of checks and balances in a democratic manner.
While giving example of alleged treatment of 17 suspects arrested in connection to pre-election violence, he emphasized on the need need for the pursuit of justice without politicization. “As a democratic country, we have to ensure that all Malawians’ voices are heard and their rights are respected”, he said.Chithyola challenged that MCP is committed to stand for vulnerable Malawians between now and 2030, a testament to his unwavering dedication to the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society.
Furthermore, Chithyola has assured the nation that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will bounce back into government, drawing from the experience and lessons learnt from the recent past. Commenting on his energy and confidence in his first speech as Leader of Opposition, some people said he is able and undoubtedly will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future.
