MALAWI’S DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT APPROVAL REVERTED TO MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Malawi Government has announced the reversion of the mandate to approve applications for the issuance of diplomatic passports to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with immediate effect.

In a press release signed by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Dr. Justin Adack Saidi, the decision seeks to ensure proper coordination and adherence to established procedures governing the issuance of diplomatic passports.

“As part of the new directive, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services has been instructed to undertake a verification exercise covering all diplomatic passports issued between June 2020 and October 2025”, reads the statement .

The statement indicated that the exercise aims to confirm that such passports are held only by eligible and duly authorized individuals.

Government has further directed that all matters relating to applications, requests, or inquiries on diplomatic passports should henceforth be addressed to the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The statement underscores the administration’s commitment to promoting transparency, safeguarding the integrity of Malawi’s diplomatic credentials, and ensuring that diplomatic privileges are reserved strictly for those entitled to them.
