DOWA CENTRAL EAST MP MIKE CHIPALA JOINS DPP

Member of Parliament for Dowa Central East, Mike Chipala, has officially joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Chipala won the parliamentary seat in the 16 September general election held last year after contesting as an independent candidate.

In that election, he defeated eight other candidates, including a representative from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Speaking to The Truth Malawi Online, Chipala said his decision to join the DPP was based on long-standing personal alignment with the party.

He explained that he has always supported the DPP’s ideology and policies, even while serving as an independent legislator.

Chipala added that formally joining the party would allow him to serve both his constituents and the party more effectively.

Meanwhile, election statistics from Dowa District show that out of the ten parliamentary seats, six were won by independent candidates.

The remaining four seats in the district were won by candidates representing the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
