MALAWI AND ISRAEL SEAL LABOUR EXPORT DEAL, 3,000 MALAWIAN WORKERS TO BOOST ISRAELI FARMS

A delegation of Israeli authorities has successfully concluded its mission in Malawi, reaffirming their commitment to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on labour export between the two nations. The agreement will facilitate the migration of approximately 3,000 Malawian workers to Israel to work on agricultural farms.

The leader of the delegation, Raisin Sasson Shirley, Director of Bilateral Agreements and Foreign Workers Administration at the Population and Immigration Authority, announced today in Lilongwe that Israel has already approved an initial recruitment order for 500 jobs. The Malawi government is currently conducting job interviews to fill these positions.

Shirley highlighted that the minimum monthly salary for a farm worker in Israel will be $1,500, equivalent to approximately K3 million. This remuneration promises a substantial economic benefit for Malawian workers and their families.

Minister of Labour Agnes NyaLonje expressed Malawi’s commitment to the agreement, emphasizing the country’s readiness to send a dedicated and hardworking workforce to Israel.

“Our workers will not only support their families back home through their earnings but also uphold the reputation of Malawi on the international stage,” she stated.

During their visit, the Israeli delegation provided training to Malawi’s central recruitment team and district labour officers. The training focused on ensuring fair, ethical, and transparent recruitment processes for the labour export program.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between Malawi and Israel, offering new economic opportunities for Malawians and addressing labour needs in Israel’s agricultural sector.
