President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has launched the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) campaign in the Eastern Region, pledging to sustain the development agenda his administration began five years ago.
Addressing thousands of supporters at Mangochi Stadium on Saturday, Chakwera highlighted unity, social progress, and infrastructure development as central pillars of his leadership.
He thanked the region for its support in the 2020 election and said his government had delivered on key promises, citing over K11 billion disbursed to 19,000 entrepreneurs, farm inputs supplied to more than 600,000 farmers, and relief aid distributed to over 300,000 households in the region.
Chakwera also emphasized that his administration increased the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to K220 million per constituency to accelerate grassroots development nationwide.
Defending the MCP manifesto, he said it prioritizes food security, job and wealth creation, governance reforms, and improved public service delivery.
MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda praised Chakwera for tangible developments in the region, pointing to the Mangochi District Council office complex, municipal roads, Cape Maclear road, Makanjira Health Centre, Zomba-Chingale road, Zomba Stadium, and the Balaka-Liwonde road as key milestones.
The Mangochi rally follows earlier MCP campaign launches in Lilongwe, Mzimba, and Ngabu.
