Member of Parliament for Rumphi West Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire has promised to support all beneficiaries under Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (FISP) in his constituency with half of the money to purchase cheap fertilizer.
Mkandawire made the pledge in parliament when he was responding to the opening state address by President Prof Peter Mutharika.He said since government under Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has started it to reduce the burden from K30, 000 per bag of 50kg during previous regime to K10, 000, he felt to do so the voters should feel his appreciation
“I have made the commitment before the public as one way to celebrate since I am the first member of Parliament to be re-electied in the constituency”, said Mkandawire.
He said he has been forced to do so because of the challenges people in his area are facing believing that if not assisted in that way, some of them will not manage to buy even one bag.The lawmaker was quick to mention that he will borrow money from commercial banks to support beneficiaries under this initiative.
“I have projected to spend over K20 million for the initiative and I will borrow from commercial banks to fulfill my pledge”, he added.Members of Parliament have started responding to state of address by President Prof Peter Mutharika which he delivered on Friday last week.
Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire is the first member of Parliament in Rumphi West to be reelected in the area.He got over 12, 000 votes during September 16 general elections against the candidate who came second with less than 2, 000 votes.
