Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ben Phiri, has warned that the government will not tolerate poor management of resources in district councils, saying this continues to hinder development in the districts.
The minister made the remarks today during a stakeholders’ meeting with council officials, chiefs, and the business community in Chitipa.
Phiri said Chitipa has the potential to become one of the top revenue-collecting districts, but will only achieve this if citizens feel that their taxes are being used effectively for proper infrastructure development.
He added that with the introduction of the K5 billion Constituency Development Fund, he hopes Chitipa will achieve its development goals, emphasizing that the fund will address concerns related to inadequate financing.
On his part, District Commissioner Frank Mkandawire said the council aims to increase local revenue collection to facilitate the completion of several development projects in the district.
