IG LUHANGA WARNS AGAINST LAWLESSNESS DURING FESTIVE SEASON

Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga has issued a strong warning that security forces will not tolerate any form of lawlessness during the festive season.

Speaking in Lilongwe last night, Luhanga emphasized the need for peace and order as people travel and take part in Christmas and New Year celebrations across the country.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and take personal responsibility for their own safety, particularly when using the country’s roads, which often experience increased traffic during this period.

Luhanga noted that reckless behavior, including dangerous driving and criminal activities, would be dealt with firmly by the police.

The Inspector General made the remarks during a Christmas carols event held at Police Headquarters in Area 30 and organized by the Malawi Police Service.

He said police officers have been instructed to tighten security measures and increase vehicle patrols to ensure the safety of citizens throughout the festive season.

Luhanga also appealed for cooperation between the police and the public, saying effective security depends on shared responsibility.

Meanwhile, Reverend Julius Suwinda, who oversees chaplaincy services in the police, said the Christmas carols event was intended to help officers reflect on God’s love for all and to encourage moral responsibility in their service to the nation.
