Member of Parliament for Dedza Mlunduni Constituency, Moses Kunkuyu, has called on the government to accelerate the distribution of subsidised fertilizer to farmers, warning that continued delays could negatively affect crop production.
Kunkuyu said the concern is urgent because rains have already started falling in all regions of the country, making timely access to farm inputs critical for a successful planting season.
The legislator, who is also a former cabinet minister, noted that many farmers across the country are still waiting to benefit from the fertilizer subsidy programme.
He said the delays are causing anxiety among smallholder farmers who depend heavily on the programme to support their livelihoods and ensure national food security.
Kunkuyu made the remarks on Saturday at Madzumbi Ground in Dedza during a meeting with his constituents.
At the same event, he thanked the people of Dedza Mlunduni for the trust and support they showed him during the September elections.
The lawmaker pledged to continue advocating for the welfare of Malawians until they receive the support they need to live happy and fulfilled lives.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Group Village Headman Madzumbi urged Kunkuyu to maintain close collaboration with the people of Dedza Mlunduni in order to promote development in the area.
