The Government of Malawi has urged the Russian Federation to deepen practical and results-oriented cooperation in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, mining and health, as part of strengthening bilateral and multilateral engagement.
The call was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chaponda, during the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, which is currently underway in Cairo, Egypt.
Chaponda said Malawi places high importance on the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum Action Plan 2023–2026, describing it as a critical tool for transforming political commitments into tangible development outcomes.
He emphasized that the Action Plan provides a clear roadmap for cooperation and ensures that agreed priorities are implemented in a structured and measurable manner.
The Minister further noted that the Action Plan is well aligned with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and Malawi Vision 2063, both of which aim to promote inclusive growth, industrialisation, human capital development and long-term economic resilience.
Chaponda outlined Malawi’s key development priorities, highlighting energy and fuel security, increased food production, value addition in the mining sector, and improved delivery of health services.
He stressed that these sectors are central to Malawi’s socio-economic transformation and require strong international partnerships to achieve sustainable progress.
The Minister revealed that Malawi is actively seeking partnerships to improve fuel supply systems, expand access to agricultural inputs and mechanisation, promote domestic mineral processing, and strengthen pharmaceutical supply chains as well as medical training capacity.
