The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has commended Bwaila Media Club (BMC) for promoting freedom of expression and fostering social interaction among journalists to advance the interests of its members.
MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga made the remarks during the BMC Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 27 December 2025 in Salima.
Matonga emphasized the importance of journalists’ gatherings, noting that such forums provide opportunities to discuss critical issues affecting media practitioners, including mental health.
“Many people, especially men and young people, face serious challenges that can lead to loss of life. These platforms create space to share experiences and concerns, which can help prevent such tragedies,” said Matonga.
Meanwhile, BMC Chairperson Felix Washon highlighted the value of strong interaction among members, saying it is essential for advancing the media agenda.
“Let us all take part in social gatherings—they are very important. We have the necessary structures in place, and I encourage committees, especially the ladies’ committee, to submit annual reports and budgets so the club can provide support,” said Washon.
Washon also encouraged members to join the BMC funeral cover scheme as a way of preparing for the future and supporting one another in times of need.
Bwaila Media Club is one of several recognized press clubs in the country, alongside Nyika Media Club in the North, Blantyre Press Club, Southern Region Press Club, and Eastern Region Press Club.
