The country has recorded eight new cholera cases in Kasungu and Neno districts, bringing the total number of confirmed cases nationwide to 11.
Minister of Health Madalitso Baloyi says three of the new cases have been recorded in Neno District, while five cases are from Kasungu District.
The newly confirmed cases add to three earlier cholera cases that were recorded in Lilongwe, Balaka, and Chitipa districts.
Baloyi disclosed the update during a press briefing held in Lilongwe, where she outlined the current cholera situation in the country.
She noted that suspected cholera cases reported in Mwaza, Ntcheu, Dedza, Karonga, and other areas tested negative after laboratory analysis.
The minister said government is working closely with neighbouring countries within the SADC region to strengthen cross-border disease control efforts.
She added that Malawi is also collaborating with international health bodies such as the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organisation, while cholera surveillance has been activated across the country.
However, Baloyi revealed that only 356,000 US dollars has so far been secured out of the required 3,373,000 US dollars needed to fully implement the national cholera response plan.
