Three Members of Parliament elected during the June 30, 2026 by-elections were officially sworn into office on Wednesday morning in Parliament.
The oath of office and allegiance was administered by Deputy Chief Justice Lovemore Chikopa.
The newly sworn-in legislators are Ishmael Louis Japan, elected as an independent for Machinga-Mikoko Constituency; Precious Kabambe of the Malawi Congress Party, representing Lilongwe City-Bwaila Constituency; and James Makhumula of the Democratic Progressive Party, representing Balaka-Mulunguzi Constituency.
During the ceremony, the three lawmakers pledged to uphold the Constitution of Malawi, faithfully serve their constituents, and discharge their parliamentary responsibilities with honesty, integrity, and dedication.
Speaking during the event, Deputy Chief Justice Chikopa congratulated the legislators on their electoral victories and called on them to serve their constituents diligently, uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, and make meaningful contributions to parliamentary debates and the country’s development.
The swearing-in officially marks the beginning of their parliamentary duties following their successful election in the June 30 by-elections.
