The Parliamentary Women’s Caucus has congratulated the Malawi National Women’s Football Team, the Scorchers, for reaching the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and for securing automatic qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In a press statement released by Parliament, the Caucus described the achievement as historic for Malawi and a significant milestone for women’s football in the country. The team secured its World Cup slot while competing at WAFCON in Morocco.
According to the statement signed by Caucus Chairperson Mary Maulidi Khembo, MP, the Scorchers demonstrated exceptional talent, determination, resilience and teamwork throughout the tournament. She said the results have placed Malawi firmly on the international map.
The Caucus commended the players, coaching staff, technical team, management and all stakeholders who contributed to the journey. It noted that the team has made the nation proud both on and off the pitch.
Beyond football, the Caucus said the Scorchers have shown girls and young women across Malawi that with opportunity, hard work and determination, they can break barriers and achieve at the highest level.
The statement also emphasized that the achievement goes beyond sport. It called it a powerful statement about the potential of Malawian women and the importance of investing in women and girls through opportunities and support to help them realize their full potential.
As the Scorchers prepare for the WAFCON final and the World Cup, the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus wished the team every success.
It urged the players to remain focused, confident and united as they continue to carry the hopes and aspirations of the nation.
