LILONGWE — President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated the Malawi National Netball Team, the Queens, after securing qualification for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.
In a congratulatory message issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, President Mutharika and the First Lady praised the Queens for securing one of Africa’s places at next year’s global tournament.
The President described the achievement as a demonstration of Malawi’s determination, resilience and sporting talent, saying the Queens had once again shown their ability to compete on the international stage.
“Congratulations to the Queens,” the message reads in part.
President Mutharika also commended the team’s coaches, technical staff and supporters for their contribution to the team’s success.
The qualification was confirmed by World Netball and Africa Netball following the conclusion of the pool stages of the African qualifier in Nairobi, Kenya.
Malawi and Namibia progressed to the semi-finals, consequently securing invitations to compete at the 2027 Netball World Cup.
The tournament will be held in Sydney, Australia, with Malawi joining fellow African qualifiers South Africa and Uganda.
The Queens’ qualification adds another chapter to Malawi’s presence on the global netball stage, as the team now turns its attention to the next phase of the African championship and preparations for the 2027 World Cup.
