DOWA POLICE RECORD 5% RISE IN CRIME, SEC MEETING TACKLES SECURITY CHALLENGES

Dowa Police Station has reported a 5% increase in crime within the district.

According to Dowa Police Station Sub Inspector Alice Sitima, this was revealed during a meeting which the law enforcers had with different stakeholders.

The meeting provided a platform to evaluate third-quarter crime statistics, review operational challenges, and propose collaborative strategies for improvement.

SEC Chairperson Bishop Peter Waya commended the police for their unwavering dedication and professionalism despite the rise in criminal activity.

He encouraged members to explore long-term strategies for resource mobilization to support law enforcement.

“Together, we can build a safer, more united Dowa District. We invite all residents to remain alert, collaborate with police, and actively participate in community safety efforts,” Waya added.

Officer-in-Charge of Dowa Police Station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aubrey Kawale, acknowledged financial constraints as a contributing factor to the increase in crime but noted an 18% decline in traffic-related incidents compared to the same period last year.

Kawale further highlighted the impact of refugee relocation and the withdrawal of UNHCR from Dzaleka Refugee Camp on policing efforts.

The OC stressed that officers are working closely with community policing structures to strengthen grassroots vigilance and early reporting. He also urged traditional leaders to educate their subjects on the dangers of mob justice, reminding them that it is a punishable offence under the law.

Dowa Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring security and safety for all citizens.
