President Arthur Peter Mutharika has delegated Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana to represent Malawi at the Extraordinary Summit of Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government scheduled for Monday, June 29, 2026.

The virtual summit, which will bring together leaders from the 16 SADC member states, will be chaired by South African President and SADC Chairperson Cyril Ramaphosa.

Proceedings are expected to commence at 5:00 p.m. Malawi time.

Principal Press Officer in the Office of the Second Vice President, Dave Gadama, confirmed that Vice President Chihana will represent President Mutharika at the high-level meeting.

The summit is expected to focus on the political and security situation in Madagascar, guided by recommendations from the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

Last week, President Mutharika also appointed Vice President Chihana to chair the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation on his behalf.

The meeting reviewed developments in Madagascar and prepared recommendations that will be presented to the Heads of State during Monday’s summit.

Meanwhile, President Mutharika is currently in South Africa on his private visit to the country and is expected to return back this week.
