The implementation of development projects under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Machinga District is facing delays due to concerns over prices submitted by contractors.
The development follows a meeting at which Members of Parliament, traditional leaders and councillors rejected quotations submitted by some contractors to the Machinga District Council.
The meeting established that some contractors had submitted their quotations without first visiting the sites where the projects are expected to be implemented.
Machinga East legislator Ester Jolobala has warned that failure to address the issue could affect the quality and timely implementation of the projects, potentially resulting in the misuse of public funds.
Meanwhile, Machinga District Council spokesperson Leonard Masauli said the council will engage the contractors to review and discuss the submitted prices before producing revised reports.
Machinga District is expected to spend approximately K5 billion on various development projects, including the construction of schools, health facilities, bridges and roads.
