Minister of Local Government Ben Phiri has called on residents of Mzuzu to work closely with the city council in advancing sanitation and hygiene initiatives aimed at creating a cleaner and healthier city.
Speaking on Friday during the Mzuzu City Sanitation and Hygiene Fundraising Gala Dinner, Phiri praised the council for developing a clear, practical, and achievable roadmap toward improving sanitation services.
Mzuzu City Mayor Chiyembekezo Moses said the sanitation project is a multi-stakeholder initiative designed to promote positive behavioural change while encouraging residents to take greater responsibility for waste management and the development of public infrastructure.
Standard Bank’s Head of Strategy and Enablement, Graham Chipande, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to the initiative, announcing a contribution of K34.4 million to support efforts aimed at building a healthier and more prosperous community.
In a further boost to the campaign, African Energy and Petroleum Limited donated diesel worth K5 million, which will be used to fuel garbage collection vehicles and strengthen waste management operations across the city.
