Youth for Action Campaign (YAC) has called on political parties, government institutions, and the public to respect the rule of law and allow the courts to independently handle the criminal case involving Sylvester Namiwa.
In a press statement released on Tuesday signed by YAC Executive director Jackson Caesar Msiska said judicial proceedings should not be politicised, stressing that the courts must be allowed to determine the matter fairly, independently, and impartially in accordance with the Constitution of Malawi.
The organisation acknowledged that every citizen has the constitutional right to freedom of expression and that anyone accused of an offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty and is entitled to a fair trial. However, YAC emphasised that these rights do not prevent lawful investigations or prosecution where necessary.
YAC further urged political parties to avoid statements or actions that could undermine the independence of the Judiciary. It also called on the Malawi Police Service, the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Judiciary to ensure that the case is handled transparently, fairly, and in line with the country’s laws.
The statement concluded by appealing to all Malawians, particularly young people, to remain peaceful, uphold the rule of law, and allow constitutional institutions to perform their duties without interference.
